The Great Lakes Shipping Company was founded in 1971 and is recognized as one of the finest steak and seafood establishments in Western Michigan. The Shipping Co. is privately owned and holds itself out as being the only restaurant in Grand Rapids that still hand-cuts every steak it serves. The Shipping Co. is located on the corner of Breton and Burton and is accessible from all highways entering the city of Grand Rapids. The restaurant features a nautical theme with brick walls, pictures of Michigan lakeside landmarks and fireplaces that adorn the entire dining area. Separate cocktail service and a tasteful wine cellar are trademarks with both smoking and non-smoking seating areas available.
