To provide quality theatrical experiences for the actor and the audience.
The Mid Michigan Family Theatre is located in the Frandor Shopping Center. It is situated between Holden-Reid and the Dress Barn. It is directly across from Kroger's. The theatre is managed by Bill Gordon, who also directs each production. The Mid Michigan Family Theatre has something dramatic for everyone! Along with productions, the Family Theatre offers classes for children and young adults.
The Beginning: A word from Bill Gordon, Director Mid Michigan Family Theatre
The idea for a creating a family theatre in the mid Michigan area arose from two different sources. The idea for a theatre space in a mall came from my visits to the Coterie Theatre in Kansas City, MO. The Coterie theatre is located in the Crown Center, a renovated three-story mall, which includes two theatres and is the headquarters of the Hallmark Card Company. The Coterie Theatre is conveniently located on the ground level across from the mall's food court.
I was also inspired by working with various children's programs that were sponsored by a parent theatre organization. One program is the Southside Theatre Guild in Fairburn, Georgia where I was a member for about ten years while I was living in Georgia. The other program was the Lansing Civic Players which at one time had a wonderful, vibrant summer program for young people.
After having had a number of positive directing experiences with the Lansing Civic Players and at Michigan State University, I put these two ideas together. Along with filling the need for shows that allowed family members to work and have fun together, I came up with the idea for the Mid Michigan Family Theatre.
